Why We Do This (Our Values)

"What does the Foundry uniquely accomplish in the lives of students?"

This is the biggest question that we keep in mind while prepare for the start of each school year. Our biggest goal is for students to present projects to students that capture their imagination and inspire them. Below are a list of our values and what we stand on to achieve this goal:

  • Power of People: The human spirit is the most powerful source of renewable energy on planet earth. When our heads, hands and hearts are connected together in an organized partnership with others a social power is unleashed that can accomplish amazing and incredible things;

  • Power of Learning: The Foundry is dedicated to community-based learning that contextualizes problems and empowers students to solve them. Teachers and coaches work and learn beside students as new approaches to building partnerships and solving problems are envisioned;

  • Power of Planning: We aren't afraid to set big, hairy, audacious goals (B.H.A.G.'s) that have measurable outcomes for student achievement with representative input. "No decision about us without us!" is a popular saying in the disabled community that has shaped our approach to engaging students in projects;

  • Power of Partnerships: As Margaret Mead said, "Never doubt that a small group of thoughtful, committed citizens can change the world. Indeed, its the only thing that ever has." We believe this wholeheartedly and are dedicated to equipping and empowering student leaders who seek change with others.

  • Power of Technology: There is no denying that technology has changed the way we interact with the people and places around us. The Foundry exposes students to cutting edge tech that increases their digital literacy and enables them to learn 21st century skills for college and career.
